Welcome to Nursery

Nursery.jpg (191296 bytes)The Nursery class offers a flexible part-time or full-time introduction to the Minster School, dependent upon the needs of each child.

Within a caring, creative and imaginative environment, the children learn social co-operation and self-awareness. The bright, stimulating Nursery encourages children to develop enquiring minds and positive attitudes to learning. Our children are purposeful and happy as they are given opportunities to develop their concentration and communication skills and to explore and discover for themselves. Free play is balanced with focused activities and an increasing emphasis on numeracy and literacy.

The Early Years education programme is based on the National Curriculum for the foundation stage. Through careful planning of daily activities, assessing each child’s achievements and planning his or her next steps, we enable the children to develop their skills and concepts in each of the six areas of learning whilst maintaining a child-centred approach. The six areas of learning are: DanielHR.jpg (201273 bytes)

To have fun, to enjoy, to experience excitement and a sense of wonder are important aspects of Nursery philosophy and curriculum. The children look forward to coming to Nursery with eagerness and, by the end of the year, anticipate their move to the Reception class with confidence. We have an excellent working relationship with parents and carers who are welcomed and encouraged as partners in their child’s education. Good communication and liaison between home and school ensure a smooth transition into the Lower School.
